Obama Argues That Trump Is Unfit For The Presidency

President Obama suggested Wednesday that Donald Trump is not “somebody who could do the job” of the nation’s commander in chief, Time reported.

“The truth is, actually, I am worried about the Republican Party,” Obama told “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon in an episode scheduled to air Thursday. “You want the Republican nominee to be somebody who could do the job if they win, and you want folks who understand the issues, and where you can sit across the table from them and you have a principled argument, and ultimately can still move the country forward.”

Time noted that the president frequently slams Trump’s rhetoric and campaign promises. While he did not mention the presumptive GOP nominee’s name during his late-night television appearance, Obama was clearly referring to him.

However, the president offered an olive branch to congressional Republicans and their supporters, who have blocked much of the administration’s legislative agenda. “There are wonderful Republicans out in the country who want what’s best for the country, and may disagree with me on some things, but are good, decent people,” he said. “But what’s happened in that party culminating in this current nomination, I think is not actually good for the country as a whole. It’s not something Democrats should wish for.”
