NBC News Says President Is Channeling Dictators Like Mao And Stalin

The press keeps attacking President Donald Trump, and media outlets are cringing that the president is lashing back at them. According to hosts of MSNBC's 'Morning Joe', the president is 'channeling Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin' with his attacks on the free press.

Trump was in an uproar over an NBC report on Wednesday claiming that he wanted to drastically increase America's nuclear arsenal. He initially tweeted in response, calling NBC out as 'fake news' and calling for them to have their license revoked.

"Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a 'tenfold' increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC = CNN!" He tweeted.

"With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!" he added a little while later.

That night, Trump also added, "Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked. Not fair to public!"

Trump spoke at a Pennsylvania event and released his tax plan on Wednesday as well, also making mention of what he saw as a 'fake news' story. He blasted NBC in press conferences, saying they had no real sources because these days, the media has frequently reported stories from anonymous sources.

"In my opinion, they don't exist," said Trump of their sources.

The MSNBC talk show panel cringed at the president's tongue-lashing of the media. Host Joe Scarborough says Trump is, like other dictators, crying that the media is the 'enemy of the people' and that the president's criticism of the press is both 'disgusting' and 'frightening'.

“It’s an attack on the media to be sure, but more profoundly, it’s an attack on the First Amendment,” said panelist Mark Halperin.

Willie Geist, also on the panel, says that the president's behavior falls in line with 'Authoritarianism 101'.

“You delegitimize the press, you delegitimize your opponents, and then you try to destroy them," Geist said. "He's saying to people who support him and to the American people, 'Don't believe your eyes and your ears when it comes to things that criticize me. Don't believe what you're seeing. Fake news! Fake news! Fake news!'"

Not everyone is convinced that the president is wrong, however. Real Clear Politics argues that the press, in their effort to delegitimatize Trump, has delegitimatized itself. Yellow journalism has become the standard for practically all media outlets, and the bias has reached unprecedented levels.

CNN took a few hits when a non-profit media company, Project Veritas, sent someone undercover into their offices. Some employees were caught on film being shockingly frank about the news outlet’s goal to make the president look bad and to perpetuate stories without any real merit.

Journalists are in a tizzy that Trump is calling out the press for being biased, but perhaps it’s not because it’s a dictator; perhaps it’s because he’s often right about them. That’s something they don’t want the public to know.
