Maxine Waters Refuses To Go To Trump's State Of The Union, Army Vet Offers To Take Her Seat

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has made no secret of her contempt for President Donald Trump. She was calling for his impeachment before he was even sworn into office, and she hasn’t wavered from that position now that he’s been there for a year.

However, the exact grounds for impeachment that she feels need to be examined remain quite unclear. Nonetheless, she continues to incessantly call for it nearly every time there are microphones around, and she just came up with another way to express her displeasure with things.

Waters has announced that she’s going to pass on attending this year’s State of the Union address, which is the president’s yearly opportunity to address the nation and members of Congress at the same time. It’s unclear exactly how her refusal to attend the event will move the needle in any way, shape, or form, but she seems to believe that failing to show up will call even more attention to her wishes.

As the Daily Caller shares, one Army veteran is pretty ticked off that Waters is shirking her responsibilities while engaging in a little grandstanding, and he’s taken to social media with a simple solution. Ricky Taylor has noted that he’ll be happy to take her seats, and that it would be an incredible honor if he was able to make that dream happen.

“Everyone please help and retweet. I would like to take Maxine Waters seats at The State Of The Union Address," he said.

"If they don’t want to go this Military Veteran would gladly go. I’d tell the President how much he means to myself, family, Military, and all of his supporters!”

Taylor’s post quickly blew up. Trump supporters loved it, detractors hated it, but the end result was that he captured a ton of attention - so much so that he was invited on to the president’s favorite morning show.

“I want to thank everyone for their support and retweeting my tweet that was on @foxandfriends this morning! It's been confirmed I will be on @foxandfriends tomorrow AM," he shared.

"I will make Veterans and all of @realDonaldTrump supporters voices heard. Let's hope I get to the SOTU address!”

While chatting with the hosts, Taylor explained that he felt that Waters was being “disrespectful.” As he sees it, this is nothing more than a “publicity stunt” from the disgruntled congresswoman.

“There are so many Trump supporters that are minorities,” he said. “She does not speak for me.”

That’s some outstanding food for thought for Waters to consider, and other elected officials would be wise to pay attention to it as well. Politicians on both sides of the aisle do a fantastic job of nailing whatever talking points they hope to drive home, but many of them seem to be remarkably oblivious to the fact that not everyone sees things the same way that they do.

Do some folks agree with Waters? Absolutely.

However, there are also a lot that do not. Which side is right and which one os wrong is irrelevant, as Waters is digging her feet into the ground and suggesting that her way is the only way, and anyone that disagrees with her is hopelessly wrong.

That’s unbecoming behavior from an elected official. There are much more effective ways to get points across, but we’re going to go out on a limb and assume that Waters doesn’t see that.
