Kasich, Fiorina Stood Out From Others in Presidential Debates

None of the Republicans who took part in last week’s presidential debates did more than Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former corporate CEO Carly Fiorina to boost their chances of winning the party’s nomination, according to Business Insider.

The news site reported that Kasich scored points with his answer to the question: “If you had a son or daughter who was gay or lesbian, how would you explain to them your opposition to same-sex marriage?”

He responded: “I just went to a wedding of a friend of mine who happens to be gay. Because somebody doesn't think the way I do doesn't mean that I can't care about them or I can't love them. So if one of my daughters happened to be that, of course I would love them, and I would accept them.”

“Kasich came out on top” of the debate, a GOP strategist told Business Insider.

Many observers named Fiorina the winner of Thursday’s first debate, which involved the seven Republican candidates who rank lowest in national polls. She used the occasion to criticize Hillary Clinton.

“I will ask her … how she can possibly continue to defend Planned Parenthood,” Fiorina said. “I will ask her why she continues to say she's a champion of the middle class, while every single proposal she puts forward makes crony capitalism worse and worse and worse, which makes income inequality worse. I would ask her why she declared victory in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2011.”
