Huckabee: Obama Cares More About Islam Than America

Instead of defending the Islamic faith, President Obama should focus on shielding Americans from terrorism, according to Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

“The No. 1 job of the president is to protect America, not protect the reputation of Islam,” the former Arkansas governor said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” He added: “Sometimes I get the impression that the president is so defensive about the reputation of Islam, he forgets that his No. 1 job as commander in chief is to protect this country and eradicate those who are trying to kill us.”

Huckabee argued that the issue “is not about Muslims per se; it’s about Muslims who are radicalized.”

“If Methodists were strapping bombs to their children’s chest and blowing up to kill a bunch of civilians, I’d be saying we need to be real careful about letting Methodists in, too. But I don’t know any Methodists who are doing that,” he explained.

Huckabee is one of many GOP White House hopefuls who have blasted Obama’s plan to allow 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States in 2016. They say ISIS terrorists could infiltrate the crowd.

The president said during a news conference in Turkey: “The people who are fleeing Syria are the most harmed by terrorism. They are the most vulnerable as a consequence of civil war and strife.” Huckabee called the speech “bizarre,” and said Obama “acted with such a level of petulance.”
