GOP Pushing For Alternative To Trump and Cruz

For those questioning the potential of an outside Republican presidential candidate--if a contested convention took place--may be in for a surprise when they hear the addition of Gen. James Mattis. The retired four-star general may land on the ballot of a group of conservatives succeed with their Plan B. Mattis retired in 2013 after a 44-year career with the Marines. He is the choice of a movement among billionaire conservatives who don't want to see GOP frontrunner Donald Trump or Ted Cruz win the Republican nomination.

In addition, if Trump is nominated, conservatives may push Mattis to run as a third-party candidate. In fact, the 65-year-old general had already received a package with six documents from around 12 wealthy donors giving him a plan to win the presidential election. Mattis is known as the "Warrior Monk." He took control of U.S. Central Command in August 2011, and served in that position until he retired. Speculation of his candidacy started in 2012.

Last month, Mattis told The Daily Caller "Haven't seen the reports and I'm quite sure it's just idle talk." Mattis has been an outspoken critic of the Obama administration Moreover, his perspective on Iran are the reason why his time at Central Command lasted less than two years. The only way Mattis could land on the presidential ballot is if the Republican National Convention is contested.
