Glenn Beck: Fox News Said ‘Stop Talking About God’

Glenn Beck claims his tenure as a political commentator on Fox News ended in 2011 because he expressed his religious beliefs on his program.

Newsmax reported that the conservative pundit, while campaigning for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Saturday in South Carolina, said a Fox executive ordered him to “stop talking about God.”

Beck recalled: “I was told, ‘Stop telling people to pray.’ I was told not to tell people to pray on their knees because there’s a lot of people in the audience whose knees hurt and I make them feel bad. I was told, ‘Stop praying because that takes God’s focus off the important things like war.’ I was just like, ‘Uh huh. Wow. I thought I was gonna get this speech at CNN.’”

The commentator reported that the executive, who he declined to identify, confronted him again four months later by asking “Do you remember that conversation? Do you realize how many times you’ve said the word ‘God’ on the air since?” When Beck asked, “You counted?” he was informed he had invoked the name 91 times.

After discussing the incident with his wife, Beck decided he should quit his show on Fox News. “I wanted to stay there (but) God said to me, ‘If you don’t leave now, you’re not going to leave without your soul. Because once you start wanting it, that’s when you start compromising,’” he told the crowd.
