Fiorina, Carson Disagree About Anti-Abortion Rhetoric

Can the recent mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic be linked to the intense national debate about abortion rights? Two Republican presidential candidates have expressed differing opinions on the matter, according to Bloomberg News.

Carly Fiorina said on “Fox News Sunday” that blaming pro-life activists for possibly inciting the shooter is a “typical left-wing tactic.” She added: “This is a tragedy. It’s obviously a tragedy. Nothing justifies this. This is so typical of the left to immediately demonize the opposition.”

Bloomberg News pointed out that Fiorina has been an outspoken opponent of Planned Parenthood. During a candidates’ debate in September, she cited undercover videos filmed by an anti-abortion group. The clips depicted Planned Parenthood staffers discussing the organization’s policy of accepting reimbursement from medical researchers who use fetal tissues in their work.

Another GOP White House hopeful, Ben Carson, acknowledged on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that there is “no question the hateful rhetoric exacerbates the situation.” He argued that Americans “should be doing all we can to engage in intelligent, civil discussion about our differences (because) that’s how we solve problems.”

On NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” the retired neurosurgeon repeated his message. “We don’t ever solve problems with hateful rhetoric,” he said. “Hateful rhetoric and terrorist-type activities are horrible, no matter from where they emanate. And we should all condemn them at all times. Let’s stop trying to destroy each other.”
