Eric Trump: Liberals Would Rather See US Fail Than My Father Succeed

“It’s insane,” Eric Trump recently said on Fox News. “They would rather see this country fail than see my father succeed.” He argued that Obamacare, formally called the Affordable Care Act, is unraveling due to rising insurance premiums; and that Democrats are unwilling to help fix the problem.

Democrats determined to prevent the Trump administration from scoring any legislative victories are refusing to cooperate in reforming the nation’s health-care system, one of the president’s sons declared Wednesday morning.

The 33-year-old Trump blamed the gridlock on political partisanship. “You mean to tell me there’s not a single Democrat that (has) a single problem with Obamacare that they would like fixed?” he asked. He complained that his family members are “under siege,” as Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller continues his investigation of Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion.

The president also is facing scrutiny for his financial dealings, as well as his possible obstruction of justice in firing FBI Director James Comey to stifle the bureau’s Trump-Russia probe. In addition, Mueller and his legal team are looking into the Russian connections of Trump’s eldest son, Donald Jr., and his son-in-law and White House adviser, Jared Kushner.

The scandal is affecting other family members, as well. Eric Trump expressed his disgust at recent tweets ridiculing his wife, Lara, who is expecting a child, and the president’s 11-year-old son, Barron. “It’s unthinkable what they’ll come after us for,” Eric told the “Fox & Friends” panel. His wife, at a Tuesday night rally in Ohio that she attended with the president, slammed the “crazy Russia” reports in the news media.

Eric Trump is not the only one frustrated with lawmakers’ inability to pass a health-care bill. After the House approved the GOP-sponsored American Health Care Act in May, Senate Republicans wrote their own version of the legislation but could not secure enough votes for it. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cancelled a floor vote when four of his party’s senators announced they would oppose the measure.

NBC News reported that on Tuesday, GOP leaders finally brought the issue to the Senate floor. A tie-breaking vote by Vice President Mike Pence was needed to have a debate. However, later in the day, the health-care bill went down to defeat. It was the latest setback in the Republicans’ attempts to repeal and replace many of Obamacare’s provisions.

After seven years of promising their supporters they would destroy former President Obama’s signature accomplishment, GOP lawmakers appear to have lost the battle. The president described as “obstructionists” the Democratic senators who were united in their opposition to the legislation. He said he continues to hope that Democrats will “finally do what’s right” by working across the aisle to end the Affordable Care Act.

The repeal of Obamacare is one of several major campaign promises Trump has been unable to keep. He also told his fans he would build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, ban Muslim immigration, renegotiate international trade agreements and imprison Hillary Clinton. Trump’s approval rating continues to fall, according to multiple national polls.
