Cruz: Obama Isn’t Protecting the Country

The attempted attack on an anti-Islam event in Texas illustrated that the Obama administration is not doing enough to stop terrorists from committing violence in the United States, according to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Once again, as with Nidal Hasan and the Tsarnaev brothers, we have radical Islamic terrorists who this administration knew about and yet failed to connect the dots and prevent this act of terrorism,” the Texas Republican said, according to The Dallas Morning News. Hasan shot soldiers at Fort Hood in Texas while the Tsarnaev's were responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing.

Cruz argued that Sunday’s incident in a Dallas suburb, in which a police officer shot and killed two armed attackers, “underscores the need for vigilance” and the “administration’s inability to combat radical Islamic terrorism,” The Hill reported.

Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi allegedly were trying to disrupt a meeting of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI). The event featured a Prophet Muhammed cartoon drawing contest, which Muslims consider offensive.

The Hill noted that U.S. intelligence officers had previously investigated Simpson for his alleged intention to travel to Somalia to join a terrorist group in waging “jihad.” He was found guilty of making a false statement to a federal agent.
