Carson Accuses Clinton of ‘Temper Tantrum’ Over ‘the Race Issue’

Republican White House hopeful Ben Carson blasted Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton last week for suggesting that some of President Obama’s critics are motivated by racial bigotry, the National Sun Times reported.

Clinton, commenting on GOP threats to block the president’s nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, declared: “Some are even saying he doesn’t have the right to nominate anyone, as if somehow he’s not the real president. That is keeping in what we’ve heard all along, isn’t it? Many Republicans talking coded racial language … they demonize President Obama and encourage the ugliest impulses of the paranoid fringe.”

Conservative talk-show host Hugh Hewitt asked Carson whether Clinton was using “coded racial language.” The retired pediatric brain surgeon, the only African-American running for president in either of the major parties, replied: “Well, I think she does. They’re always going to bring up the race issue any time they don’t get their way, like little children having a temper tantrum. It’s kind of comical, actually. If everything is racial, why aren’t they saying any problems I have are because of racial prejudice? Why does it only go in one direction?”

The leading Republican in the Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has pledged to prevent Obama from picking Scalia’s successor. He hopes his party wins this year’s general election, which would allow a more conservative president to make the choice. Scalia’s recent death left the court evenly divided between liberal and right-leaning justices.
