Ten Years Later, This 'Biggest Loser' Winner's Life Remains Remarkably Different

About ten years ago, Sam Rouen was 19-years-old and absolutely miserable. The teen was overweight and out of shape, and he felt as if there was no way he was ever going to achieve his goal of becoming more healthy and active. Fast forward to today, and Rouen is celebrating nearly a decade of some monumental changes.

He’s in fantastic shape, and he’s just announced that he’s engaged to his lovely girlfriend Daniella. So what spurred such dramatic changes in Rouen’s life?

As Inspire More shares, Rouen won the third season of the reality weight-loss competition ‘The Biggest Loser.’ When he began his journey on the show, he tipped the scales at 340 lbs.

After 12 weeks of a grueling competition that he threw his heart and soul into, he was able to shave off an astonishing 156 lbs. The difference was like night and day, and Rouen was incredibly grateful for the experience that put him on the right track.

After leaving the show, Rouen didn’t go backwards by any means. In fact, it looks like he’s been working even harder, as he recently shared some snaps of his chiseled physique. He works as a firefighter, and he has even appeared as a model in a calendar that features firefighters.

Rouen recently dropped a note on social media to let followers know that thing remain great in his world these days, but he’s still having a tough time wrapping his head around how far he has come.

“Wasn’t sure if I was going to do this post….. however. 10 years hey. What a time. So much has happened, good, bad, everything between,” he wrote.

“Highest highs and lowest lows. All I know is I’ve got some amazing people in my corner and I’m unconditionally appreciative of that.”

It looks like the habits that he picked up during his stint on the show have stuck with him, and he now has some much healthier habits that keep him fully occupied.

“I’m addicted to working out now, I definitely love running and working out with my brother. I play a bit of sport to stay in shape and also work out in the gym,” he explains.

Despite the major improvements to how he feels about himself, Rouen is not the type that’s going to go out and flaunt his success.

“I’m still extremely self-conscious,” he added. “I still don’t like taking my shirt off, even at the beach.”

He didn’t share an update to brag about his success or to show off his chiseled physique, but rather to share a simple message that he hopes will inspire others to work towards achieving their goals.

“You can be at your lowest point and, with a bit of hard work and persistence, you can turn it around and fulfill your dreams,” he said.

That’s an outstanding sentiment, and it’s one that can be applied to a whole bunch of different life situations. Whether we’re talking about losing weight, acquiring a new skill, or even making more money, keeping the nose to the grindstone and focussing on the light at the end of the tunnel can help you get there. It’s never going to be easy, but few things in life that are worth having can be gained without extending the effort to get them.
