Billy Bush Says President Admitted to Lying About His Reality Show Ratings

It wouldn't be surprising if television personality Billy Bush had a grudge against President Donald Trump. After all, it was an interview with Trump back in 2011 that got Bush fried from his 'Today' show job when it surfaced during the election.

Bush defends himself by saying, at the time, he couldn't tell anyone anything about what Trump was saying behind the scenes. Now, though, there is nothing holding him back.

Bush says he called out Trump in an interview at the time because the reality star was always saying his show was 'number one'. Trump has always bragged about his ratings on 'The Apprentice', even though he never presented any data to confirm his claims.

Other sources said 'The Apprentice' hadn't been anywhere near number one in years. Bush finally confronted Trump about his claims with the cameras rolling.

"He'd been saying it's number one forever and finally, I'd had enough," Bush said in an appearance on 'Real Time with Bill Maher' on Friday.

"I told him, 'Wait a minute, you haven't been number one for like five years - not in any category, not in any demo'. He goes: 'Did you seen last Thursday? Last Thursday, 18-49, the last five minutes?'."

Bush hadn't, but Trump said it somehow proved his point.

When the cameras stopped rolling, Trump leaned in and told Bush candidly, "Billy, look, you just tell them and they believe it. That's it: you just tell them and they believe. They just do."

"And that's where we are," Maher noted. "He can do that to America now. It's what he does all the time: he just says it and they believe it."

Bush got a lot of flak for the famous Access Hollywood tapes that caught Trump talking on a hot mic. They were getting ready for an interview when Trump began bragging about how being a celebrity allows him to get any woman he wants. He said he could grab women 'by the p--sy' and they wouldn't resist.

Those tapes were released in 2016, just weeks before the presidential election. Trump managed to pull through, practically unscathed by what he called his 'locker room talk', but Bush lost his job on 'Today' due to indulging Trump in the conversation.

Bush defends himself, saying he had no choice but to keep smiling and being polite. "I spent a lot of time with Trump, I was the entertainment correspondent for NBC and he was the cash cow, pulling 20 million viewers a week," he explains, saying he wasn't in a place to complain about Trump's comments.

"You know how volatile he is. He'd be like, 'I hate Billy Bush, he's done, moving on, Entertainment Tonight only, forget Billy Bush,'" he continued. "And then I'd have to explain why I lost Trump, the big fish."

Bush says the release of the tapes really sent his life into a tailspin. "In the beginning, it's chaos. You got order in your life and all of a sudden, in an instance, you have chaos," he admits. "There's paparazzi all over the place, you wonder if you're going to be okay, then you sort of come out oddly enough."

But overall, he's happy with his life, especially his kids and family. He tries not to think about Trump.

"He didn't do it, in fairness, he didn't leak the tape,' Bush said. 'I didn't want him to call. I don't want to talk about this. I haven't spoken to him in three, four years."
