Rescuers Didn't Know What This Animal Was Until They Looked Under The Fur (Photos)

It's heartbreaking to see someone neglect and abandon their pet dog. When some people rescued a dog in Tokyo, the poor thing's fur was so filthy and matted that they couldn't even figure out his breed. A trip to the groomers solved the problem, and the pup was so grateful for the haircut.

The volunteer groomers went to the animal shelter after they got a call about a recently rescued dog. The large dog was sporting long, tangled dreadlocks that had obviously long been neglected.

When they arrived, they could see the pup had a very sweet nature. He went from one person to another, showing gratitude just for the attention and affection they gave him. Thankfully, he seemed to realize that the people he was with now didn't mean any harm, and he was willing to let them help.

The groomers took to the pup with an electric shaver and began to shear the filthy mat of hair around the pup's face. You have to wonder how the dog was even able to see through the poufy tangle of hair.

It wasn't easy, but the dog hung in like a champ as they shaved him down. He was much thinner than they actually thought once they were able to get down to his neck and face-- all that poof was apparently pure fur.

Some of the knotted fur was so bad that the groomers had to use garden shears to get through it. The dog seemed very relieved to be shedding all that weight at once.

After his hair cut, the pup enjoyed a very long bath. He had to be scrubbed over and over to get off all the dirt, but the groomers could finally see what kind of dog had been hiding under the mess: a poodle!

The shelter showed a video of the dog, who seemed so happy to be free of his prison of hair. He ran around, prancing and leaping in the yard. He was positively overjoyed. Hopefully, he’ll find a forever home with someone who will take good care of him, and spend the rest of his life as happy as he is now.

Much better...
