This 12-Year-Old Was Beaten And Abducted, Then This Pack Of Lions Showed Up

The abduction, abuse, and rape of young girls in impoverished countries is a tragic reality of the modern world. Every day, women and girls as young as 12 face the prospect of being kidnapped and forced to marry and bear children to a man they don’t know. In some African and Middle Eastern countries, as much as 70% of marriages are forced by abduction. This reality was realized by an unnamed, 12-year-old girl when she was abducted and beaten by a group of men in Ethiopia. The young girl had done whatever she could to avoid strange men up until this point, being warned by her parents of the dangers of abduction and forced marriage all her life. This poor young girl was taken by several men who attempted to force her into marriage and beat her. Despite the best efforts of her family and local authorities, one child amongst hundreds of abductions was a needle in a haystack of crime, terror, and tragedy.

When Police finally caught up with the abducted girl outside the town of Bita Genet, a week after she was reported missing, they were shocked at what they found. The girl, beaten bloody and weak, was surrounded by three lions who appeared to be standing guard by the girl. The young girl informed police that the three cats came and scared her captors away before the arranged marriage could take place, and stayed with her until police arrived. Sergeant Wodnimu Wedajo informed the press that when he arrived at the scene, the lions were standing guard and “left her like a gift and went back into the forest… if the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage”.

A wildlife expert has shed some light on this phenomenal tale, stating that the young girls crying might have resembled those of a lion cub, which activated the lions protective instincts. The wildlife expert, Stuart Williams, stated the theory “in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her”. Despite being “shocked and terrified” by the ordeal, the young girl is safe and sound in her home village and has been treated for her cuts and wounds. Four of the alleged kidnappers have been arrested yet three remain at large.
