Something Embarrassing Spotted Behind President Donald Trump And First Lady At Windsor Castle

It's rare for Queen Elizabeth II's staff to drop the ball. Windsor Castle operates like a well-oiled machine on most days, with not an item out of place. However when the U.S. President and his wife visited on Friday, the staff made an embarrassing mistake when they left a certain object in the background during a photo op.

The royal staff are positively red in the face after a photo of the Queen, Donald and Melania Trump was released. The photo was taken in the grand corridor of Windsor Castle, but off to the side there was an object that was supposed to have been removed: a dog bowl.

The bowl, sitting upon a matching placemat, is believed to have been for the Queen's two pups, Vulcan and Candy. The dachshund-corgi mixes (or 'dorgies') live in the palace, and the spot is probably where they go for a little refreshments. The bowl was most likely not supposed to be there for the photos with the visiting president and his wife-- that would be a little like forgetting a dirty cup on a side table before portraits on the sofa.

Obviously, the staff realized their mistake. The Queen welcomed King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium on Saturday, and took photos in the same place. This time, there were no dog bowls in sight.

Some Americans have speculated that leaving the dog bowl in the photo was some kind of slight against Donald Trump, but this is highly unlikely. Any deliberate display of disrespect to a guest at the castle, particularly a world leader, would be considered scandalous and an embarrassment to the castle staff, as well as to Her Majesty. No matter what personal opinions the people at Windsor Castle might hold, the staff takes too much pride in their job, country, and tradition to cause a scene like that.

President Trump and Mrs. Trump visited England last week. On Friday, the Trumps were welcomed to the U.K. with a Guard of Honor at the castle. The presence of the guard isn't required in greeting visiting foreign leaders, according to royal protocol, but is sometimes brought out for honored guests.

Mrs. Trump looked stunning in her cream Victoria Beckham suit, with a thin black belt and black shoes. She again appeared to be channeling Jackie Kennedy, as she so often does in formal events.

The Queen looked radiant as well in a powder blue outfit and her customary matching hat.

The Trumps did not bow to the Queen as they approached, which is not entirely unusual though it is uncommon. The Queen did do something uncommon, though: she extended a hand to shake Trump's hand as he walked up the stairs to meet her.

Mr. Trump then held a press conference at Chequers with British Prime Minister Theresa May. They went on to spend the afternoon having tea with the Queen and taking pictures.

President Trump has said in the past that he has great respect for the Queen and the way she has represented her country over so many decades. He says his wife is also a ‘tremendous fan’ of Queen Elizabeth, and that his mother, who was from Scotland, was a big fan as well.
