Colin Kaepernick Just Got Paid by the NFL for His Lawsuit and It's a Lot of Money

It has been over two years since Colin Kaepernick started the “kneel during the National Anthem” movement. Colin Kaepernick started this movement because he said that Black Americans were being treated unfairly by the criminal justice system especially when it came down to how they were being treated on a daily basis by police officers. The movement started gaining a lot of steam with dozens of other players joining Kaepernick in the protest.

On the other side, many other players and fans opposed what Kaepernick and other players were doing. They did not necessarily oppose the statement he was making but they opposed how he and the other players were making the statement. Many people found that it was such a sign of disrespect to kneel during the National Anthem because of the disrespect to the American Flag and the disrespect to the soldiers who helped protect the flag and the country.

As Kaepernick’s protest continued in 2017, he was released by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers made a statement claiming that their departure from the quarterback had nothing to do with his protest. Their organization was moving in a different direction at the time as they had a new coach and general manager and Kaepernick did not fit into their new system.

Kaepernick continued to look for a new team in the NFL whether it was as a starting quarterback or as a backup quarterback. A few teams took a look at him with the latest being the Seattle Seahawks. In the end, no team took him on. All teams that took a look at his skills say he did not fit into what they were looking for. Many of Kaepernick’s supporters stood by him saying that his NFL statistics prove that he was better than more than half of the quarterbacks in the league and that he deserved to play.

It was after all of this that Colin Kaepernick decided to sue the NFL. He claimed that the NFL owners and their respective executive staff had colluded to keep him out of the NFL because his protests were not good for the image of their respective teams. Many people claimed that this was just speculation and that the grievance would never gain any traction in the courts.

Well, these people were wrong. Kaepernick and the NFL have just decided to settle the case out of court. Many speculate that the NFL did not want to continue with the suit as the optics were not good for the overall organization. Even though the settlement was issued with a confidentiality agreement, many insiders claim that the NFL will be paying Kaepernick between $50 million and $70 million to settle the grievance claim.

Since the settlement came out there has been many opposing thoughts on the outcome. NFL insiders says that the organization is just happy to have this issue behind them even though some feel that this might open them up to future lawsuits. Opponents are furious that the NFL decided to even give Kaepernick even one cent for his claim.
