Young Boy Being Honored For Helping Robbery Victim

Karter Hatcher is an 8-year-old boy who helped a burglary victim recover hundreds of dollars stolen from his home. Missouri police plan to honor him. Hatcher told KTVI, "Not exactly a hero but I feel like a good person." A few weeks ago a 6-year-old boy offered him a $100 to ride his bike. The boy said that it was the second time he had seen that much money, and it made him suspicious. He stated “I was wondering that when this 6-year-old had that much money it had to be stolen or something."

So, Hatcher went and told his grandmother Kathy Carr-Richard, who also felt something wasn't right. Carr-Richard said “I said maybe it’s his grandma’s, his parent’s money for bills. I said ‘he shouldn’t have that.’ That’s when Karter said ‘I think he had five or six of them.’” Carr-Richard notified the police and they found the 6-year-old had taken around five $100 dollar bills from a neighbor's home. Edmundson Officer Tim Etling said the 6-year-old kept begging them not to tell his mother.

Carr-Richard said of her grandson “He’s just a great kid. I told him I was very proud of him.” Etling added “I think we really have to take the time to realize there are some great kids out there. There’s some great families out there.” The 6-year-old is currently going through the juvenile process. Etling went on to say “Maybe we caught him early enough that lesson learned he’s never going to do anything like that again."
