Wrapping Up The Mystery To Disappearing Steve From Blue's Clues

Steve Burns was a household named 15 years ago. Burns was the first host of the hit TV show for children named Blue's Clues. When Steve departed the show, he hopped aboard an animated bus and “went to college”.

Now at 43, Steve is almost completely bald and clearly appears well past his college years. Burns also wryly points out that his impending baldness was one of the reasons he left the show a decade and a half ago.

“I was going bald and I kind of looked around and I'm like – the people who decided that I should wear these pants are not going to choose a wig with any dignity for me. It's just not going to happen,” Steve admitted in a recent interview.

Burns went on to explain why he the show: “Everyone wants there to be a dramatic answer and there's not. I wish I had a cool answer for this, but I just - I did it for like seven years and it just seemed like time to go.”

Burns went on to say: “It just really felt like a good, comfortable time to go and I felt like this show is awesome - and it felt like a very comfortable thing. There wasn't any weird dramatic or more interesting answer than that.”

Note that Burns’ departure from Blues Clues led to many false rumors. Posters on social media claimed he had died from a drug overdose or had been killed in a car accident. A couple of the rumors even led to Steve's mom calling him crying to make sure he was alright.

Burns highlights that he really wanted to go back to being a voice over artist. He noted that Blue's Clues was actually “kind of the anomaly” in his career and he didn't want to be an actor.

Keep in mind that Burns was the only live character on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon show Blue's Clues for seven years. Produced for preschool kids, Blue's Clues was far ahead of its time compared to other children’s TV shows.

On the show, Steve was replaced by Joe, and both actors spoke directly to viewers as they solved games and puzzles that Burns’ animated dog Blue would lead them in accomplishing.

Steve's 2002 departure from the show was planned carefully so that young viewers wouldn't be turned off or freaked out. The show found a good match to play Steve's younger brother “Joe” (Donovan Patton).

Most people that meet Burns today find it difficult to believe he was once the host of the beloved kids’ program. Bald and wearing wide-rim glasses, Steve is barely recognizable from when he hosted Blue's Clues more than 15 years ago.
