Woman Who “Role-Played” Faux Doll Pregnancies Closes Instagram Account

It’s not easy marching to the beat of a different drummer in today’s PC world. Just ask Kathryn Barnes, from Chicago. Barnes collects lifelike dolls, and used to regularly document faux-pregnancies online by sharing photos of a fake baby bump anticipating the “arrival” of a new doll, until a wave of abuse from internet trolls forced her to close her social media accounts.

Barnes is the proud owner/parent of ten “reborn” dolls, and was in the practice of entertaining her Instagram followers with pretend ultrasound photos she created with an editing app, and also included pictures of her expanding 'bump.'

However, after weeks of malicious abuse from closed-minded critics of her light-hearted role play, Barnes said she had no choice but to close her social media accounts.

She said: 'Reborn parents use the term "reborn pregnancy", when they're expecting a new doll and role-play the "pregnancy" by posting photos online of tests and hospital rooms where they would go in to 'labor,'' she said.

The soon-to-be special ed teacher began collecting the reborn dolls, and in November 2015 she bought her first doll for around $500. Since then her collection has grown to include her dolls Harper, Ludovic, Ariel, Xavier, Gracelynn, Kelly, Gabriela, Owen, Aurora and Jaxson, who run the gamut from newborns to three-year-olds. She also has three-month-old twins Aurora and Jaxson, who have Down Syndrome.
