Woman Warning Others After Common Habit Almost Took Her Life

Back in 2010, this 26-year-old woman had her life completely turned upside down when she was involved in a horrific car accident. According to Independent Journal, she was lucky to walk away alive, but there’s a significant mistake she made that caused her to suffer even further.

Bethany Benson was driving home from college to visit her mother, and since her boyfriend was at the wheel, she decided to put her feet up on the dashboard and take a nap. As they were driving along, an accident up ahead led to a bit of a chain reaction. Her boyfriend’s attempt to avoid the crash were in vain, and the car was completely totaled.

The young couple amazingly survived. Bethany’s boyfriend was pretty banged up and needed stitches, but she fared much worse in the crash. Because of the way her body was positioned, she sustained even more damage than she would have.

Bethany suffered extensive brain damage as a result of the accident. She is staying with her mother since she can no longer care for herself.

“I lost a sweet 22-year-old who worked full-time and put herself through university. She was on a great path. I got a 13-year-old with anger issues,” explains her mother, Mary Lachapelle.
