Woman Wakes Up In Terrifying Place

In what feels like a scene taken out of a horror film, a 92-year-old German woman woke up in a funeral home just hours after a doctor declared her dead. On Tuesday, Prosecutor Birgit Juergens, of Essen, Germany, said that the 53-year-old physician--who declared her dead--could face serious legal consequences. In addition, authorities have charged the doctor with negligent bodily harm. If the physician is convicted, he could face a fine or prison time for the misdiagnosis.

The doctor's name has not been released due to privacy regulations, but in March, he says a caregiver at the woman’s nursing home in Berlin, Germany, found the seriously ill woman not breathing and without a pulse, so she called the physician. That's when he incorrectly diagnosed the woman, as she allegedly did not convey any signs of life. On that same day, a funeral home worker got a chilling surprise. While performing daily duties, the employee heard a scream coming from the refrigeration room--where dead bodies are stored.

After investigating, the worker found the 92-year-old woman very much alive. The woman was released from the funeral home, but died in a hospital two days later from heart disease. On July 2011, The United States Department of Treasury accidentally declared a different 92-year-old woman dead while she was still alive, causing her life savings to deplete entirely.
