Woman Sues Families After She Hit Their Sons With Her Car

A driver in Canada says she's been traumatized after an accident and she's suing. The lawsuit is aimed at the grieving families of the young boys she hit with her car. They were riding bikes and she killed one of them, and injured two others.

The accident happened in 2012. Brandon Majewski, 17, and two of his friends decided to hop on their bikes and go out for hot dogs. It started raining and the sky became dark. A woman driving an SUV didn't see the boys on their bikes on the road and plowed into them.

Sharlene Simon, 42, is suing the three boys, and Majewski's parents, for the sum of $1.35 million. According to the driver, the accident traumatized her.

"They did not apply their brakes properly," says Simon's lawsuit. "They were incompetent bicyclists."

Majewski's family feels the lawsuit is like rubbing salt in the wounds. Not only did they lose their 17-year-old son, but months later their older son committed suicide. One of the other boys in the accident was nearly killed and sustained a life-altering injury as well.

"This has ripped our family apart," says Majewski's father. "And now this woman has the gall to try to profit from our dead child she killed? Profit from another boy who was almost crippled?"

Simon has not been charged with any crime, though she was going 6 mph over the speed limit on that rainy day, and there is suspicion that she was using her cellphone at the time and distracted.
