Woman Stuns African-American Neighborhood with Sign on Her Back

Seeing her fellow Americans be subjected to institutionalized racism was breaking Laurella Willis’ heart. She felt like she needed to do something, so she did.

Willis is walking the streets apologizing to black Americans for the way they are treated in this country wearing a sandwich board sign that has just four words: “Black America, I’m Sorry.”

According to CBS Chicago, she has been walking 20 miles a day through Chicago’s South Side with her sign apologizing for “everything that’s going on in America.”

Chicago residents seem to welcome Willis’ efforts. She gets thumbs ups, waves, and even requests to take pictures of her while she’s walking through the streets.

“It’s very touching,” a resident said. “Especially someone who’s not colored.”

WVON Radio host Mark Wallace put Willis in the spotlight after he saw her walked on 87th Street.

“No one put her up to this and she woke up and decided White America there’s a problem and we need to do something about it,” he said.

Willis invited the public to join her as she walks.

“I don’t want to continue to see Black American being oppressed, and held down and killed like animals,” Willis told CBS Chicago.
