Woman Refuses To Remove Headscarf In Court - Judge Gives Her Dose Of Reality

One Canadian woman said the one person who is supposed to upload justice, violated her right and made her feel unwelcome in the country.

“What happened in the court made me afraid. I felt that I’m not Canadian anymore,” said Rania El-Alloul, according to Conservative Tribune.

El-Alloul had to appear in court since she was trying to get her car back, which was impounded when police discovered her son driving it without a license. Quebec Judge Eliana Marengo said she would only be heard by the court if she removed her hijab, a religious head covering worn by Muslim women.

“The courtroom is a secular place and a secular space,” said Marengo. “There are no religious symbols in this room. Not on the walls and not on the persons.”

Marengo likened her religious head covering to someone wearing a hat or sunglasses in the courtroom. El-Alloul, a mother of three, said she could not remove her head covering and that she has been wearing it for years.

Marengo refused to hear her case and said El-Alloul would have to hire a lawyer.
