Woman Orders Child's Omelette, Then She Notices Something Terrible On Her Receipt - It's Not The Price!

A UK couple is fuming after they were insulted at a restaurant where the woman used to work. The manager plugged an insult into the computer on the receipt. The family demanded and was given a refund, but the staff refused to apologize.

Steve Dempster and his wife took their 11-month-old baby out for dinner. The baby is just starting to try new foods, but the parents didn't want to order anything big, so the mother asked for a 'child-sized omelette'.

Dempster's wife, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she used to work at that same restaurant, so she knew special orders weren't a problem. The establishment always sought to accommodate the customer-- at least, they used to. When the wife asked for a small omelette for the baby, the cashier questioned her.

"The girl at the till said why don't you just order a normal omelette and she explained that he wouldn't eat it all so could she just have a smaller portion," said Dempster. "At the time, I think she was being served by the cafe manager who was training up a new member of staff... They went to type the request in and my wife noticed that the other member of staff sniggered, so she asked for a copy of the receipt."

When they looked at the receipt, they found that the person typed into the order, "Small egg [and] tomato omelette for weird freak."

The couple asked for an explanation about the comment, but none were offered. Instead, they canceled their order and asked for a refund.

"It's not like she's made some ridiculous demand," Dempster said, "not least to say she was really upset and asked them 'did I really deserve this treatment?'"

"It's utterly shocking that the cafe manager thinks they can do that in front of another member of staff and not think the customer will ever see it," said the outraged husband.

A restaurant spokesperson has responded to the incident. "Unfortunately today one of our staff acted in an incredibly unprofessional way and we are extremely sorry. It is not the high level of service that we know our customers expect from us and which we expect from our staff. We have made a direct apology to the customer concerned and will be taking up the matter internally with the staff involved," the spokesperson said.

That is really uncalled for.
