Woman Passed Away In Walmart Bathroom - Was Locked In For Three Days

An absolutely bizarre case has emanated out of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and this one is a real head-scratcher that has a ton of questions attached to it. It revolves around what can be best described as an incredibly strange incident at the local Walmart store in the town, which is just outside of Tulsa. A woman was found dead inside of the store’s bathroom. While that’s strange and unusual enough, the case becomes even more bizarre the further you peel back the layers.

As the Daily Mail shares, the woman has been identified as Katherine Caraway, a 29-year-old resident of Muskogee. Surveillance footage shows that she entered the store on a Friday. Her deceased body would be discovered in a restroom three days later. Even more bizarre, the restroom she was found in was thought to be out of order, and that restroom was locked shut.

Sadly, Caraway is a mother of one, but her child was not with her. Somewhere during her visit to the store, she entered into the private family bathroom. At some point, that bathroom was locked shot. That led employees to believe that the restroom was out of order, and they would hang a sign on the door as a result. The sign remained there throughout the weekend, and the restroom remained locked.

The bathroom door was finally unlocked on Monday, and that’s when employees discovered the woman’s body and alerted the authorities.

"We're searching through the video and talking to as many people as we can to find out her story, where she's from,” Sand Springs Police Capt. Todd Enzbrenner.

No cause of death has been released, and police have noted that there are no obvious signs of foul play. We’ll have to wait and see how this bizarre case plays out, but there are a ton of questions swirling about in the meantime.

For starters, exactly why was it just assumed that the bathroom was out of order because it was locked? Was the store manager not alerted to the fact that something was amiss with one of the store’s restrooms? Exactly who makes the rounds in this store to check for trouble spots? Why was it finally decided that the restroom should be unlocked on Monday?

None of those questions are meant to suggest that the store was somehow liable for the woman’s death, but it’s incredibly strange to have a store restroom randomly deemed to be out of order and summarily dismissed. Wouldn’t you expect there to be some kind of random restroom check to alert store staff to potential maintenance or hygiene issues?

That’s standard operating procedure for any franchise that’s worth its salt, so it sounds like multiple parties dropped the ball here. Be that as it may, the death of Caraway is the focus here, as her life was ended way too soon. No word on what kind of child care arrangements have been made for her child, but our thoughts and prayers go out to her family in the wake of this shocking incident.
