Woman Discovers Massive Amount Of Cocaine While Strolling Along The Beach

When taking a stroll along the beach, there’s a few things you would expect to see. Driftwood, sea shells, and seagulls come quickly to mind, as well as any other number of things you would attach to seeing during such a leisurely stroll.

Not included on the list of things you would expect to see are massive quantities of illicit drugs that have washed up ashore. However, that’s exactly what happened to this woman.

As Fox News shares, the unidentified woman was walking along the beach in Melbourne in Central Florida. She saw a strange looking package, which just so happened to be near where a sailboat had washed ashore during Hurricane Irma. Curiosity got the better of the woman, but she quickly realized that she needed to call the cops.

The authorities would come to find that the package contained nearly 50 pounds of cocaine. It’s unclear how long the package was there, or if it was possibly connected to the sailboat that had washed ashore. The special investigations unit with the sheriff's office would immediately seize the cocaine, but it’s unclear if they’ll be able to get to the bottom of where it came from.

The story quickly made its way through the surrounding community, and local residents were quite surprised.

“You would think that South Florida would get the cocaine washing up—not middle, or central Florida. It’s a surprise,” said one resident.

“You could put together any story, but none of them are good,” added another resident.

The latter resident is on the money. We would imagine that speculation is running rampant as to where the cocaine emanated from, but none of them point to a happy story. There could be someone out there on the high seas with a voracious appetite for the white powder, or it could be the product of a smuggling operation gone awry.

There’s also the possibility that it just got swept up in the high seas during the massive storm known as Irma, but that leads to even more questions as to where it would’ve come from. Is it possible that this was somehow a pickup and drop off location for local dealers? That certainly can’t be ruled out either, but this is a massive quantity of the drug that we’re talking about.

This is not some simple paraphernalia, residue, or leftovers from an unruly party that got left behind. This is a nearly 50 pound package of an illicit drug, and that points to a specific intent for it to be delivered and distributed. That’s a frightening thought in and of itself, but it’s also a cold hard reality of the world we live in.

The war against drugs is waged on a number of levels, but not all that much headway can be made as long as there are willing consumers. In the end, those willing consumers - and the dealers that serve them - lead to even more problems for the surrounding community to deal with.
