Woman Caught Beating Naked Daughter On Beach. Tell Police Why She Had To Do It.

A California mom was arrested after witnesses called police. They saw the woman allegedly beating up a naked 11-year-old girl. According to the woman, the girl is her daughter and is possessed.

She was performing an exorcism.

Kimberly Felder stripped the clothes off her pre-teen daughter and was brutalizing her. According to reports, the mom was biting her daughter, choking her and hitting her.

She rubbed sand into the daughter's eyes and shoved it in her mouth.

The violent outburst drew a crowd of 10 to 12 people on the beach. Police received multiple calls for help. Finally, one stepped in to stop the attack.

John Marciel, a witness, attempted to restrain the wild mother when she picked up a piece of driftwood and began whacking the daughter on the head with it. After a struggle, Marciel was able to subdue the 45-year-old mom until police came.

The child was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors say she sustained 'severe damage' to one of her ears.

She received multiple other injuries during her mother's attack. According to reports, the girl will probably need reconstructive surgery.

Police arrested Felder and questioned her. “The mother said she was trying to remove the demons from the child,” said Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal in a statement.

Police aren't sure what set the mother off to make her think her daughter was possessed, but they said the attack was very disturbing.

Police are hailing Marciel a hero. They believe if he didn't step in to intervene, that the girl would have probably been killed. “He was shook up pretty good,” said Lt. Ken Swithenbank. “It’s very heroic what he did.”

The local law enforcement agents have put Marciel's name in for consideration to win the Red Cross Lifesaver Award.

Felder has been charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse and aggravated mayhem.

Sadly, religion can go very wrong in some parents with extremist views. In Maryland, a mother believed her two toddlers were possessed by demons and stabbed them to death. In Russia, a 4-year-old boy died when a Korean Shaman decided his pneumonia was due to a demon invasion, and he tried to exorcise the 'evil spirits' from the boy's body.

In Wisconsin, an 8-year-old child died after his mother's congregation wrapped him in a sheet so the minister could perform an exorcism on him.

The most famous case of an exorcism gone wrong is that of Anneliese Michel. The girl was raised in a devout Catholic home in Germany. As the girl's mental health deteriorated, her family became more and more convinced that she was possessed.

A priest convinced them she needed an exorcism, and they proceeded to perform exorcism rites on the child repeatedly - 67 sessions in all. By the time Michel died, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and had suffered broken knees from being forced to continuously genuflect (kneel and perform the sign of the cross).

The priest was found negligent in her death. The movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" was based on her story.
