Woman Claims She Was Kidnapped, Raped - Police Discover She Was Telling A Big Lie

A Colorado woman has been convicted of three felonies after accusing a young man of raping her. The accusations turned out to be false.

Katherine Elizabeth Bennett, 21, said Dustin Toth, 25, kidnapped her from a supermarket parking lot at knifepoint and raped her. Police burst in and arrest Toth and his name was splashed across the headlines with accusations of rape.

Toth, a National Guardsman, nearly lost his family and his career over the accusations. He was barred from a planned deployment to Cuba while the investigation was ongoing. He did lose jobs, his apartment, nearly couldn't get another apartment and struggled with getting other services after the accusations came out.

After Bennett's story changed several times, the truth came out. Toth didn't rape her, and did not pull a knife on her. The couple met at the supermarket parking lot for a date they planned, then went to Toth's apartment where they had sex.

Bennett faced up to 9 years in potential jail time, but was ultimately sentenced to 32 days’ jail time and 180 days of electronic home monitoring.
