Woman Cornered By Rapists Tells Them She Has HIV - Didn't Think They'd Still Attack

A woman heading home from church one night in Queens, New York was approached by some young criminals. At gunpoint, the men robbed the woman, forced her to strip and sexually assaulted her on the street.

The woman says she tried to tell her assailants that she was HIV-Positive, but they didn't care. One of them ran to a nearby store to purchase condoms.

The 50-year-old unnamed victim is a married mother of two. She had just left the Celestial Church of Christ, where she spent Tuesday evening at a prayer service.

She was on her way to the Jamaica subway station when two men with a gun approached her.

The men led the woman down an alley and called over three more men. When they got her behind a garbage truck, they demanded her wallet. They took the woman's cell phone, headphones, metro card, and the $6 she had on her. When she didn't have more, it angered the men.

"They tell me, 'you don't have money so take off your clothes!'" she said to the New York Daily News. "I said, 'What? In the middle of the street?'"

At that point, the men demanded that she perform oral sex on them. The woman lied and told the men that she was HIV-positive. The men didn't seem to care. One man, who she says was 'short', ran to a nearby store and returned with condoms.

She was forced to pleasure three of the criminals. "They said, 'if you don't do that, I'll shoot you,'" the victim told the Daily News. "So I did what I had to do."

One of the criminals called her a 'stupid African woman' and slapped her across the face. After the men were done, they left her alive. The woman, half-naked and hysterically crying, ran back to the church where she found Pastor Kehinde Oyetunde.

"She was crying and her face was full of rubbish," said the pastor. "She had her clothes in her hands. She said that they pulled a gun on her and took her stuff, then wanted to sleep with her."

The woman, who lives in Brooklyn, has been going to the church for the last 10 years. She would usually go four days per week, but now she doesn't think she'll be able to go anymore. She's afraid to make the trip.

"I'm very worried.... I don't know if I can go back there," she said. "There are just mean, hooligan guys who wanted to rob and sleep with somebody."

Police officers recovered a condom from the scene and are having DNA tests performed on it. They're also testing the woman's clothing.

The victim described the five men as being in their 20s. She says she did not know any of them. The members of her church are praying for her to make a full recovery, to find the strength and courage to return to church, and for the five suspects to be brought to justice.
