Woman Being Held Captive By Abusive Boyfriend Gets Help After Slipping a Note to Animal Hospital

It was a three-day nightmare for one woman in Florida that finally came to an end. The woman says her abusive boyfriend was armed and holding her against her will.

Thankfully, when the couple went to take their dog to the vet, she thought fast and passed the employees a note. The abusive boyfriend confessed and has been arrested.

For 28-year-old Carolyn Reichle, help couldn't have come soon enough. Her 39-year-old boyfriend, Jeremy Floyd, came to see her on Wednesday night and things did not go well for the couple. He began to batter her brutally, and threatened her with a gun. He held her captive and threatened her family.

Reichle spent much of the next two days in bed due to head injuries she sustained from the beating. On Friday, she convinced Floyd that her dog was sick and needed to go to the veterinary hospital.

Floyd brought her and the dog into the car, and pointed a gun at her. He told her that if she pulled anything, he'd kill her whole family. The couple went to the DeLand Animal Hospital, but it was there that his reign of terror came to an end.

Reichle, looking in bad shape after the beating she sustained two days earlier, passed a note to the vet staff that read, "Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun. Please don't let him know."

The staff member, thankfully, took the note very seriously. They called the police, and officers rushed to the scene where they detained Floyd.

They found Floyd in possession of a firearm, and could see that Reichle looked 'visibly injured'. The woman was brought to Florida Hospital DeLand for treatment of a head injury, a black eye and bruised arm.

Officers escorted Reichle home, and she showed them what appeared to be two bullet holes in the hallway. She told them it was from an earlier struggle with Floyd for the gun.

Floyd, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms. His criminal record includes convictions for burglary, drug possession, sale of drugs and grand theft motor vehicle. He's been charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and simple battery, reports ABC News.

He's currently being held without bail.

"Pretty smart people, or the person that did that," Don Pummer, a customer at the animal hospital, told NBC4 News.

When Pummer was asked if he thought the vet staff saved the woman's life, he responded, "I would imagine so. You never know what someone who does something like that would be capable of."

Victims of domestic violence who are being held captive under threat of bodily harm might be taking a risk by trying to pass on a note or get help, but in many cases, that risk can pay off, possibly even save their lives. One woman and her children were being held captive and she managed to send a cry for help by convincing her boyfriend to let her order pizza online.

She put the cry for help in the special instructions section. Another woman being held hostage messaged her friends on Facebook to raise the alarm.
