Woman Asks Mother One Strange Question, Realizes What’s Happening

A Texas mom was shopping with her toddler one afternoon when she was approached by a very odd couple. Her internal alarms went off, and she believes the couple targeted her daughter for a sex-trafficking scam. She wants to get the word out to warn other parents.

Amanda is a resident of Longview and she brought her two-year-old daughter to the grocery store with her. As she got in the check-out line, she took her daughter out of the cart and the couple in line with her started fawning over her adorable little girl.

"I initially was understanding of what I assumed was a cultural barrier, but I quickly became uncomfortable with the woman's body language and close proximity to my cart/kids," wrote Amanda in an account of the event. "I picked my daughter up only to have the woman ask if she could hold her. The woman was so close at this point that my toddler reached her arms around the woman before I could really respond. In an instant her proximity finally changed and she backed away."

Amanda's instincts told her to grab her daughter back, quickly. As she did, the woman had started saying, "Say bye to mommy."

Amanda found that comment extremely odd, and became alarmed when the woman resisted as the mother tried to take her daughter back.

The couple left, and the shaken mother noticed another man, with no groceries, staring at her from a few feet away. He was standing in a closed check-out lane. "His eyes did not leave my every move and I confidently matched his stare to show I was aware of his presence. I loudly conversed with the cashier about their security staff and the odd couple that seemed predatory."

Amanda went home and did some research on abductions. She found that abductors often work in groups, stationing themselves in different places in the store. The invasion of Amanda's personal space, one of the things that set off her internal alarms, is also common.

Abductors will commonly follow parents out into the parking lot to snatch children away as moms and dads are busy packing the car. They also might follow a family home.

Amanda feels she was lucky that day at the store, but she urges other parents to be vigilant.
