Wife Realizes What 'Surprise' Her Husband Gave Her 8 Years After Finally Having Sex On Wedding Night

A single mother from Australia thought she had met the man of her dreams, but it turns out their whirlwind romance was the beginning of a nightmare. Shortly after the wedding, the husband became violent and abusive. After the divorce, the woman made the most shocking discovery of all: her husband had infected her with HIV and didn't tell her, despite the fact that she was pregnant and later breastfeeding.

The anonymous woman wants to warn women everywhere: HIV is not just a concern for gay men. Women also have to be careful to protect themselves. She found out the hard way that someone you trust the most in the world can be secretly putting your life at risk. She told her story to MamaMia.com.au in an exclusive.

The woman was a single mother when she met the younger man. She was flattered when he pursued her and fell head-over-heels for him. He seemed a model husband: he adored her kids, didn't drink, didn't smoke, was quiet and seemed trustworthy. He even was okay with the woman putting off sex until the wedding night.

Little did the new bride know, her husband infected her with HIV right after they took their vows.

Shortly after the wedding, things took an abrupt turn. "As soon as I signed the marriage papers he turned into a different man. He was domineering, controlling and not my Prince Charming at all," she said to Mama Mia.

The man became violent. The woman threw him out, only to discover she was pregnant. She took him back, hoping to make it work for the child's sake, but that didn't pan out. He was quickly out the door again.

All through her pregnancy, the man never warned her about HIV. When she breastfed, he didn't warn her. It was eight years with her health going downhill before she finally found out. She got to the point where she was always fatigued, losing weight and even losing hair. After having a seizure at work, she thought she might have cancer and went to the doctor. It turned out to be HIV.

"I tracked my ex down and phoned him. Furious, I said, “Do you realize what you’ve done? You played Russian Roulette; you put me at risk and our child. You fired two bullets, you got one hit,” she said. "He hung up. I never heard from him again."

Her health has improved since she started medication, but some of the damage done to the woman's body is irreparable. She warns women to always take responsibility for their health and get check-ups.
