This Is Why You Should Always Wear Safety Goggles When You Use Power Tools

You should always wear safety goggles when using power tools of any sort. Accidents can and do happen, and your eyes cannot be replaced.

Unfortunately, many people, especially younger people, do not remember to put on safety goggles — they either foolishly believe that they don't need the protective glasses or in some cases, they just forgot about them.

A recent social media post offers an opportunity to remind everyone that safety goggles can prevent injuries and save lives.

A Reddit user named austaul shared a picture of a very fortunate man who had his safety goggles on when it counted. As you can see in this photo, a two-inch piece of a blade that broke off from a power saw has penetrated hardened safety glasses.

Austaul did not offer many details about what happened in this bizarre and scary accident, but other Reddit users were more than happy to share their ideas.

A poster named Tr0user had a suggestion for the glasses that saved the man's eye: “Wherever this happened, they should preserve it as an artifact in a glass cabinet in the entrance.”

SkaveRat concurred and added another suggestion: “And send the glasses manufacturer a thank you card.”

Another Reddit user named MyOldNameSucked shared a personal story: “My brother ridiculed [me] for wearing eye protection while I chopped up a tree (and I felt multiple chunks hit the glasses). He got hit in the eye with a small piece of metal while using an angle grinder 2 days ago. Who's the idiot now?”

Arcian posted that he learned his lesson about safety glasses as a young man: “I was weed-eating as a younger guy, and my dad was always about the eye-glasses. Now since I was obviously smarter than my dad I thought 'pffft, who needs those?' and not two minutes later the weed-eater tossed a rock at super speeds right at my face and hit me just below the eye. I put safety glasses on.”
