While Battling Bed Bugs, Cincinnati Woman Learns That Rubbing Alcohol Is Combustible

When budgets are tight, it’s time to buckle down and make some tough decisions about where your dollars will be spent. This includes when it comes to minor repairs and improvements, as the things that you can handle on your own can lead to some extra savings - not to mention a sense of accomplishment when the task is completed.

That said, there are plenty of times when you’ll have to bite the bullet and employ the services of a professional to make sure things are handled correctly.

For example, if you’re all thumbs when it comes to handling a hammer, you have absolutely no business climbing up on top of a leaky roof and attempting to repair it by yourself.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can cause even more damage up there - not to mention the fact that you’re putting yourself in harm’s way for a job that you are ill-equipped to handle.

Another example would be when something goes wrong with your car. While some folks are quite handy under the hood, there are scores of other folks that have no clue what they are looking at when the hood gets popped.

If that describes you, it’s advisable to find a trusted mechanic for your automotive needs.

Quite simply, it’s an expensive world out there, and there’s a lot to be said for keeping a watchful eye on where your hard-earned dollars are going. However, there are times when you have no choice but to pony up and spend some money that you weren’t planning on spending.

An unidentified woman from Cincinnati is likely coming to terms with that sentiment as we speak. As the New York Post shares, she managed to burn down her house while attempting to handle a problem all by herself.

The woman was dealing with a bed bug infestation, and she thought this was something she could handle on her own. She was wrong. The woman decided that rubbing alcohol mixed with fire would do the trick.

That was certainly enough to burn the bed bugs to a crisp - as well as her home and all of her possessions. It gets worse. She lived in a five-unit dwelling, and all of her neighbors were displaced as the fire spread quickly through the whole building.

All told, 10 people were left homeless, and three people were injured by the blaze. One of the displaced neighbors would share a video of the blaze on social media.

“My House caught fire n got burned down - all my stuff is gone maaaaaan,” he wrote.

Incredibly, the same exact thing happened just last week - in the same city. For the first fire, a 13-year-old boy was responsible, and eight neighbors would be homeless as a result.

The Cincinnati Fire Department has felt compelled to inform residents of the appropriate course of action when dealing with an infestation: call in a professional. We can only hope that the message gets out there in abundance.
