Waitress Is Stunned By What Her Customers Wrote Down On The Tip Line

As virtually all Americans known, tips are an important part of the income of serving staff. The long hours, intense nature of the work, and admirable attitude of waiting staff are often highly commendable and deserving of both higher wages and tips. After deciding to spend a summer working at D’Jais Bar and Grill in Belmar, New Jersey, 20-year old College Student, Jess Jones, was stunned after collecting the check from a group of 8 who had dined at the restaurant.

The large group had been promptly greeted and seated upon arrival and warned by Ms. Jones that the kitchen was having a busy night and that their orders might take some time to be delivered. While this was initially confirmed by the diners, it appears that they took a different view of events when deciding what to leave for a tip with the check reading: “LOL 1 hour for food” on the tip line.

The immensely rude note was particularly outrageous to Ms. Jones who felt that she had provided first class service to the table, taking to Facebook to say “I would have preferred a '$0' tip than a 'LOL' tip, but as a waitress, bad tips and harsh notes are all part of the job. Even though they did wait an hour to eat, they remained satisfied with filled drinks and proper notice that the kitchen was a bit busier than normal.”

The Facebook post quickly went viral and the response has been staggering with a huge number of people commenting on the rudeness and cheapness of the group at the restaurant with Erica Mouzakis saying: “It's not the waitress's fault if the kitchen is running behind! That's just an excuse not to tip!”

The viral Facebook post has even been making waves in local politics with the Mayor of Bremer, Matt Doherty, saying: “If you visit Belmar please treat the hardworking men and women in our service industry with the same respect you would expect at your job. This is ridiculous.”
