Waitress Slips Customer A Note - Speechless When He Sees What It Says

Usually when you go out to eat, if you're a decent person, you expect to tip the wait staff. One man was stunned at the end of the meal when the waitress slipped him a note, giving him a 'tip' instead. The man was touched by the kindness of the waitress and reported the incident to the Facebook page, 'Love What Matters'.

Carlos Sepeda Jr. and his family were staying with his mother-in-law. Their home had been destroyed by Hurricane Harvey in Texas last month, and the family's spirits were low. The mother-in-law brought them out for dinner at Sam's Restaurant in Fairfield, Texas, and while there, they mentioned their plight to the waitress.

Sepeda says waitress Mary Gough heard them talking about their struggles, and they mentioned to her that they were storm refugees. By the end of the meal, when the family was getting ready to leave, Gough slipped a note to Sepeda's wife.

The family didn't open the note until they got into the parking lot, but they couldn't believe the contents: a $100 bill.

Sepeda walked back inside to tell the woman that they couldn't accept her money. She told them she went to the back and prayed about it, and this was the answer she was given. She refused to take the money back from the family. She also offered them a table and chairs, if they needed them.

"My friends and family if you are in Fairfield make sure to stop by Sam's restaurant and see Mary, tip her well and show Texas gratitude!" Sepeda said. "This is what Texas pride is made of!"

People listened, and it was Gough's turn to be surprised. She never thought anyone would hear about her act of kindness. "I don't have Facebook. I had no idea that it would be on Facebook; that was just out of my heart and it made her feel better," she said. "I just knew I wanted to help somebody feel better, and I would do it again if I felt the need to."

Natural disasters can be devastating, but if there is one silver lining, it's how people come together and perform extraordinary acts of kindness for each other.

In Florida, a truck driver carrying a load of plywood passed hundreds of sheets out to people in one town that was bracing for a head-on hit.

One furniture store owner in Texas opened to let displaced residents and national guard members come in to crash on the floor model displays.

At John Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, the nurses threw a birthday party for a 3-year-old cancer patient. Because of the hurricane hitting the area on her birthday, her family was unable to get to the hospital to be with the leukemia patient. Only her mother was there, and she hadn't been able to get cake, decorations or gifts. The hospital staff took care of everything and threw her a regular birthday bash.

A disaster makes you realize just how many fundamentally good people there are in the world.
