Waitress Can't Believe What Customer Wrote On The Tip Line

It's not uncommon for a waiter or waitress to encounter a rude customer who says or does something mean. One waitress vented about the treatment she got on social media. Even the mayor was offended, and he had a message for visitors.

Matt Doherty, Mayor of Belmar, New Jersey, heard about the treatment that one of the town's waitresses received from a customer. That didn't fly with Mayor Doherty. He took to the town's Facebook page to post a message.

"If you visit Belmar please treat the hardworking men and women in our service industry with the same respect you would expect at your job," wrote the mayor. "This is ridiculous."

Doherty was referring to what happened to local Rutgers University student Jess Jones. The 20-year-old student supports herself waiting tables and relies on tips to make a living. She vented on social media about a woman who left the letters 'LOL' on the tip line.

"Even though they did wait an hour to eat, they remained satisfied with filled drinks and proper notice that the kitchen was a bit busier than normal," Jones said. "I know it's annoying when things aren't right. I know how aggravating it is to receive a hefty bill when all night you've been wondering why the table that came in after you was served before you. But waiters are mere messengers most of the time, and it's wrong to shoot them, however bad the news."

Sounds like the customer needed a tip the most - about manners.
