Virginia High School Shows Video That Divides People Based on Skin Color

Glen Allen High School in Henrico, Virginia has stirred the pot when they showed students a YouTube video titled, “Structural Discrimination: The Unequal Opportunity Race,” in which topics like racial profiling and the “school-to-prison pipeline” are featured.

The animation shows four people of different races running in a foot race. While the white characters are able to run the race with no obstacles, those with more skin pigmentation encounter roadblocks like a police checkpoint. The video ends with this statement, “Affirmative action helps level the playing field.”

Don Blake, a white grandfather of one student who attended the assembly said, “They are sitting there watching a video that is dividing them up from a racial standpoint. It’s a white guilt kind of video. I think somebody should be held accountable for this.”

One person tweeted, “Y’all are privileged. Get the — blank — over it.” Radio personality Craig Johnson, who also happens to be black, said “Dr. King gave his life so that America would be a place where we are judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin. Now we have poverty pimps being led by our current president Barack Obama who all they talk about is the color of skin.”

The school officials responded with this statement:

“The students participated in a presentation that involved American history and racial discourse. A segment of the video was one component of a thoughtful discussion in which all viewpoints were encouraged. As always, we are welcoming of feedback from students and their families, and we address concerns directly as they come forward.”

It seems the video promotes that it's racist to think everyone is capable regardless of skin color.
