Video Of Near Disaster Shows Massive Ship Nearly Capsizing On Rough Seas

A video of a large ship being tilted and swayed by high winds and waves off the coast of South Africa has gone viral after showing the ship on the brink of a catastrophic accident. Viewers were astounded at just how close the ship was to capsizing. The shocking footage was filmed by a bystander on the shore, who watched as the ship was pushed and rolled with one commentator indicating that the ship was rolling about 20 degrees from center.

The couple who filmed the video were mentioned in an online post, causing the video to go viral quickly. The video was captioned: “This couple were strolling at the harbor when they noticed the sea was quite rough and the wind was very forceful. Then they spotted a ship that was wobbling back and forth and looked like it was going to fall over.” Thankfully, this ship was not full of passengers and managed to navigate the treacherous waters into the harbor. It remains unclear how many crew members were onboard the ship and what it was transporting. At this stage, no injuries have been reported amongst the crew.

After such a near miss, viewers have drawn similarities between the ship in the video and the Costa Concordia disaster of 2012. In the latter incident, an Italian cruise liner capsized after the ship struck an underwater rock formation, resulting in the deaths of 33 people. In this case, the ship appears to be a cargo vessel. However, considering the ship’s large size and proximity to shore, many viewers have speculated about the ship’s safety regulations.

Viewers of the video were terrified as they watched the ship sway back and forth, with one online user, named ‘Ian’, stating “I’m getting seasick just watching that!” Other online commentators have wondered at the type and placement of the ship’s cargo, implying that the ship was moving so erratically because of a risk distribution of weight.
