Men Go After Iraq War Veteran's Wife On Fishing Trip

An Iraq war veteran and his wife decided to go on a peaceful fishing trip off Victoria's Surf Coast, but unfortunately, the peace didn't last very long. The vet says that while they were fishing, eight Muslim fishermen attacked his lovely wife, and the husband ended up getting into a fight with them. The vet put at least one of the men in the hospital, but no charges have been pressed.

Kyle Tyrrell is a retired lieutenant-colonel with the Australian army. He and his wife, Liana, and their daughter were at a beach in a marine sanctuary where fishing was banned when a group of men came by and dropped a crab pot into the water.

Liana alerted the men that fishing was banned in the area. Tyrrell reports that his wife was very polite about the correction. “Liana said nicely to him that if you put that in there, you may get in trouble, as you are not meant to have it. That was it, and he turned on her,” he explained.

The small group of men, all Muslims according to reports, did not take being corrected by a woman very well. They immediately flew into an attack that the couple says they believe was ‘racially and culturally motivated’. The men blasted the woman, calling her slanderous names.

The group then threatened violence. "His mates got close to me and then he made a run for my wife, that's when I ran at him, he threw a punch which I ducked and the fight started. At no time could either my wife, daughter or I safely walk away," said Tyrrell to the Stand Up for Australia webpage.

"At that point five more joined the fight, one punching my wife as she attempted to get our daughter up the beach," Mr. Tyrrell recalls.

Tyrrell says the men told his wife that her husband needed to teach her a lesson. He ended up teaching the men a lesson instead: a lesson about being verbally abusive to women and attacking veterans.

Tyrrell came out of the incident with minor injuries, and so did his wife. At least one of the Muslim men attacking landed in the hospital.

Police did not charge Mr. Tyrrell for defending himself and his family. He doesn't regret what he did.

"I would do the same thing again in a heartbeat, in fact, I would do the same thing for any woman I saw in that situation not just my wife," said the veteran.

The thugs definitely picked the wrong man for picking a fight. Tyrrell, who is a martial arts instructor, wrote on his Facebook page, “When you’re outnumbered in an altercation your best [defense] is to FIGHT hard, NEVER give up and switch into BEAST mode. No-one says you won’t be injured but you MUST FIGHT for your safety and your [family’s] safety and odds are your injuries will be far less than if you remain passive or defensive. Be the BEAST!!!”
