UK Couple Claim $2500 A Month In Welfare Because “Too Fat To Work”

UK residents Stephen Beer and Michelle Coombe, who just recently got married, weigh more than 700 pounds combined.

Of note, the couple receives around $2500 a month in welfare benefits. The rent on their one-bedroom apartment is also paid for by the government, and an aide comes by twice a day to help Beer with personal hygiene and getting dressed, and the government also covers that $12,000-a-year expense

Beer is also provided with a reinforced mobility scooter at public expense.

He claims that he wants to go back to work, but says no one will hire him due to his weight.

According to Beer, he has an addiction to food, but is trying to do better and will attend a weight loss boot camp later this summer.

Beer Suffers From Multiple Health Issues

Beer has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and other health issues related to his 400+ pound weight. After his wedding, doctors found a clot in his lung and he spent nine days in the hospital.

He can only stand up for a few minutes until he becomes breathless, the wedding day trip to the hospital was not a surprise to his new bride. Mrs. Beer, who has never had a job as an adult, commented: “I reckon Stephen will be on benefits for most of his life.”

Beer said he once managed a cleaning business and had to stop working after a stroke six years ago.

When asked about collecting welfare just for being too fat to work, Beer noted: “Is it right? Of course not. But at the end of the day I did work. I have worked, I haven’t sat on my a*** all the time. I have done some work and so really, why not?”
