Uber Driver Under Investigation, Might Make You Think Twice Before Hitching A Ride

On Friday, 47-year-old Alejandro Done pleaded guilty to aggravated rape, kidnapping and assault and battery. He was a former Uber driver, and he will be sentenced to between 10 and 12 years in prison.

His victim had set up a ride from Boston to her home in Cambridge in December 2014 when Done picked her up. He told her he needed a cash payment so he would take her to an ATM. Instead, he drove her to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her. He also hit her and attempted to strangle her. He locked the car doors while covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming.

Victims, in several cases, gave a consistent description that matched Done, who had no previous criminal record. In addition, the Massachusetts State Police crime lab matched a sample from Done to one from the Cambridge victim. State Police Superintendent Col. Richard McKeon said at the time of Done's capture "These cases have been worked tirelessly for the last nine years. We never forgot."

Uber said that Done was not a driver for the ride-hailing service when the Boston attacks took place and had passed a criminal background check when he was hired.
