Twenty-Five Years After Original Diagnosis, Olivia Newton-John Says Cancer Is Back

Olivia Newton-John has stunned her longtime fans with the sharing of some awful news. The star announced that she is postponing her June U.S. and Canadian concert tour dates over health concerns. As the Daily Mail shares, the star’s longtime battle with breast cancer has reared its ugly head again, and this time it’s spreading to her back.

Newton-John was first treated for breast cancer back in 1992 when she was just 43-years-old. That led her to be treated with chemotherapy, have a partial mastectomy, and undergo breast reconstruction surgery. Fast forward to today, and the 68-year-old had initially cancelled some dates over back pain, but it turned out to be much worse than that.

“The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum,” a statement on social media read. “In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.”

The star would also offer up some thoughts for her fans in the statement, and it sounds like she’s in really good hands to get the treatment that she needs.

“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” she said.

She’s asking for privacy at this time, and she has no plans to do any interviews. As for the initial concert postponement, her team took to social media to announce the news.

“We are so sorry to announce that the Olivia concerts scheduled for May will be postponed due to a bad issue with Olivia's sciatica,” the post read.

Newton-John would also reach out to fans, and she thought that she would be back up in no time.

“I have had a long running issue with sciatica and I need to take this time to rest and deal with this very painful condition,” she wrote. “My husband John is taking great care of me and I want to thank all my family, friends and fans for their concern, love, support and good wishes. I look forward to returning to performing soon!”

The star’s 31-year-old daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, jumped on social media to offer up her thoughts soon thereafter.

“I love u mama. Miss U so much. Will all of u send healing prayers for my mamas back please,” she wrote.”I believe in the power of positive thinking and energy. Love u all.”

The star of the iconic film Grease has been touring in honor of her album LIV ON, which is an inspirational collection of numbers based on the various traumas the star has had to deal with through the years.

“As a group, it's our intention with this album to create songs with a message of compassion and hope,” Newton-John has previously said. ”They are for anyone facing a time of challenge in their life, whether it is grieving a loss or on the journey to health and recovery.”
