Trigger-Happy Police Officer Enters Woman's Backyard, Shoots Friendly Dogs - Claims Danger

Following allegations of excessive use of force and racial discrimination, America’s police officers now faced with ever-increasing public scrutiny. Sadly, although most police officers are good people with good intentions, the actions of a few cruel individuals have tainted the reputation of all US law enforcement agencies. Now, the residents of Minneapolis, Minnesota, are calling for action after a police officer was caught on camera brutally shooting two friendly Staffordshire terriers.

When Minneapolis police received reports of a burglary at Jennifer LeMay’s home, an officer was quickly dispatched to investigate. However, when the officer began looking around Ms. LeMay’s backyard, the unnamed man had no idea that his actions were being recorded by a CCTV camera. The 1:49 video shows the police officer wandering around the backyard before he starts backing away from something off camera.

What happens next is truly heartbreaking. The video shows Ms. LeMay’s dogs wandering into the backyard to investigate the uninvited guest. However, despite the officer’s obvious fear, the dogs, named Rocko and Ciroc, are wagging their tails and not acting aggressively in the slightest. Rather than leave the backyard or observe the dog’s behavior, the poorly trained officer pulls out his service weapon and shoots Rocko and Ciroc, leaving the dogs writhing in pain.

Rocko and Circo both survived the attack but Ms. LeMay is facing enormous vet costs. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Ciroc and Rocko, who are emotional support dogs for Ms. LeMay’s children, have been part of the LeMay family since they were puppies.

In his official report, the unidentified officer described how "two large size pitbulls charged at officer," provoking outrage from thousands of online commenters. Ms. LeMay’s son, Nae Locs, was particularly horrified after watching the CCTV footage, saying: “The police officer claimed he felt threatened but we got cameras and you can see the whole thing. The dogs didn't even charge at the officer the first one was walking up to him with his tail wagging.”

After shooting the friendly animals, the cowardly officer flees the scene and jumps over the backyard fence. Despite promising to contact Animal Control, the Minneapolis Police Department never dispatched anyone to take the dogs to an emergency vet. To make matters worse, police have since learned that the initial burglary alarm was accidentally triggered by Ms. LeMay’s daughters.

Now, the heartbreaking video is going viral and the public response has been awe-inspiring. After setting up a GoFundMe page to fund her vet and legal costs, Ms. LeMay raised more than her goal, reaching $27,000.

Unsurprisingly, Ms. LeMay is still “livid” and has secured the services of an attorney, Mike Padden, with the intention of pursuing legal action against the offending officer and the Minneapolis Police Department, with Mr. Padden saying: "As far as we're concerned, it's a crime to file a false report. And there should be a criminal prosecution if in fact that happened."

After showing the CCTV footage to a former Minneapolis police officer and trainer, Mike Quinn, reporters from KARE 11 secured further evidence of the officer’s wrongdoing. "The dog's tail is wagging. Ears are down. They're not back. He's just curious, and he shoots him, I don't see any reason to shoot the first dog," said the veteran police official. According to a statement from the Minneapolis Police Department, an internal investigation is already underway.
