Tragedy Strikes Teen While PosingFor These Photos On A Beach

Students all over the world wait eagerly for Spring Break. Many travels to different parts of the world, gong to beaches, forests and new cities. For most students, the worst consequence of Spring Break is usually a bad tattoo or a case of alcohol poisoning. However, one 14 years old, Aurora Genai Sheffel from Eugene, Oregon never returned from Spring Break.

Aurora was 'taking pictures and posing' with her friends on a large log at South Jetty Park Beach when a large tide came in and trapped Aurora underwater. Aurora's friends and bystanders did their best to help her get to safety. They were able to take her to a hospital but unfortunately, it was too late. Aurora succumbed to her injuries soon after the accident.

Her family has been incredibly devastated by their loss. Aurora's stepfather, David Wederquist said, "She was just a great kid; you couldn't ask for one better. She was really mostly a nerd. But she thought she'd give cheerleading a try."

Oregon Police Officer, Sgt. Kyle Hove said, "They were just taking pictures and posing. The tide was receding heavily. Bystanders were able to pull her out from under the log and call for help about 4 pm Saturday. A Bandon police officer administered CPR, and paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but Sheffel died at Southern Coos Hospital and Health Center in Bandon soon afterward."

The North Eugene Cheerleading also wrote a tribute to the young girl in their newspaper, "She was only a freshman but was already such an amazing person and cheerleader. Aurora was a happy person and her excitement for life was truly contagious. You couldn't help but smile when you were around her. She was a great big sister and she loved loved loved her little ones."

Extended family members have set up a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for funeral costs. They have already raised $7000. Her aunt wrote on the page, "Everyone loved Aurora and she was a bright and beautiful soul who brought joy to everyone she met. She was a varsity cheerleader, full of passion and love, and an excellent student."
