Toddler Soiled His Diaper, So Mom's Horrible Boyfriend Did This To Him

A toddler has suffered from some life-altering injuries after his mother's boyfriend 'punished' him for dirtying his diaper. The two-year-old thrown into a tub of boiling water because he got his pants dirty. He's making a remarkable recovery, but the painful memories of the horrific abuse still haunt the mother and son.

Daniel Rose, 32, was babysitting for his girlfriend. Little Korbin Edwards wasn't fully potty trained yet, which is normal for a two-year-old, but Rose had a terrible temper. When Korbin dirtied his diaper, Rose flew into a rage and put him into a bathtub full of scalding water as a punishment.

DJ Gilbert, Korbin's mother, had known Rose for 15 years before they dated, so she never expected this to happen. "He called me at work to say that Korbin had a rash, I asked him to send me a picture and when I received it, Korbin was red from the mid belly down to his feet," she said. "When I got home he was lying on the couch, his skin was falling off, so I wrapped him in a blanket and drove him to hospital."

Gilbert was terrified. "I was really scared when I first saw his skin," said the 34-year-old Kansas City, Missouri resident. "It was bright red and white from where it was peeling off, large chunks of skin where missing. I found out he had third degree burns across half of his belly, all his waist, his genitals, butt and most of his legs."

"Doctors told me there was a chance he wouldn't make it and that that if he did, he would need major skin grafting, as well as it being unlikely he would ever walk again," Gilbert explained. "They thought it was a miracle that he had made it through and survived."

While Korbin has come a long way, he still has a long way to go.

"This is a truly heart-breaking case of child abuse," said Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd. "This child was undoubtedly screaming in pain when dunked in scalding water, but instead of immediately calling for medical attention, this defendant tried to cover his tracks."

Rose was convicted of first degree assault and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
