They Told Him It Was A Good Luck Charm - After 18 Years, He’s Getting It Removed

Elective surgeries can be a contentious topic for some people. While there are many proponents of self-improvement procedures - as well as a cottage industry that specializes in touting its wonders and benefits - there’s a whole other camp that believes it’s completely unnecessary and typically little more than a vanity exercise. That being said, there are exceptions that will appease even the latter camp, and this tale certainly qualifies.

As Healthy Page shares, an 18-year-old boy has elected to have surgery to remove something he has been carrying around for his whole life. That something would be a tail that protruded from his back since birth. While his parents touted it as a ‘good luck charm,’ the boy was unconvinced. He respected their wishes and kept it concealed, and as you can imagine, that ramped up his anxiety in social and academic settings.

Despite his parents wishes, he took the initiative to go to the Super Specialty Hospital in Nagpur to explain that the tail was causing him pain. As you’ll see in the photos, that’s not hard to imagine, as it had grown to a length of seven inches, and was protruding from his back in an uncomfortable-looking manner.

Dr. Pramod Giri, head of the neurosurgery department at Super Specialty Hospital, explained that it was causing “extreme pain in his lower back, problems while sleeping and sitting,” as well as that the boy was also suffering from an extreme psychological issue because the tail was growing so he had to always adjust the tail in his clothes when sitting.”

Surgery was recommended, and it turned out to be a simple procedure. The boy is said to be doing well and enjoying his tail-free status.

“He is very happy. He is now very comfortable while sleeping and sitting. He says he feels more confident about himself now,” Dr. Giri continued.
