There's Been A Huge Breakthrough In The Case Of Natalee Holloway

Natalee Holloway went to Aruba with friends when she was only 19 years old, and vanished without a trace. Her case has captivated people for more than a decade, but after all these years there have been two major breaks. Authorities believe they are close to solving the mystery and getting justice for the teen.

Holloway went to the Caribbean on a high school graduation trip with friends, but she never made it on the flight home. According to reports, the last person she was seen with was Joran Van der Sloot, and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpe. The three men were locals and were spotted with Holloway in a car some time after she left her classmates outside of a nightclub. The men insisted they were just giving Holloway a ride back to her hotel and that they didn't know what happened to her after they dropped her off.

Police suspected the men, particularly Van der Sloot, from the beginning, and even arrested them several times. In the absence of evidence, they were unable to build a case and had to let the suspects go each time.

"I remember seeing Joran van der Sloot at the casino at our hotel. That was the first time I saw him and I remember chatter of him. 'He's so cute,' 'Who's going to hook up with him?' Those sort of things were floating around. That was probably the extent to which I got close to him," said Holloway's friend, Jessica Caiola. "I don't even remember if Natalee with him at that point, or if any of us were necessarily with him. What I can tell you is he was there multiple nights of our trip. I believe it was the second to last night I saw him at the casino."

John Ludwick, Van der Sloot's best friend, claims he was involved and that he’s finally coming clean about what happened to the young girl. Ludwick’s former roommate reported that Van der Sloot and friends had asked a barter tender friend that night to mix date-rape drugs into drinks they bought. Allegedly, Van der Sloot gave Holloway the drink and she began ‘foaming at the mouth’.

“He panicked, he didn't put her on her side or nothing, and she choked on her vomit,” the roommate said.

Ludwick claims he helped Van der Sloot dispose of Holloway's body, He claims he doused Holloway's skull in gasoline and set it on fire inside of a cave in an effort to destroy evidence. They then destroyed the rest of her remains.

Or maybe they didn't, as a new break in the case has resulted in the discovery of multiple bone fragments.

"The idea was to crush everything to the point where it wasn't recognizable as her bones or skull or anything like that," Ludwick said at the time.

Ludwick claims they mixed Holloway's remains with the remains of a dog, and paid an employee at a pet crematorium to let them to 'push it in' themselves. After they obtained the ashes, they poured them into the ocean.

After that breaking confession came more leads. Four bone fragments that were a possible match for Holloway were recovered and DNA tests are being conducted on them.

The investigation into the bones is being funded by Holloway's family. Her father, Dave, claims that this will be his last effort to investigate his daughter's disappearance. He will be letting go of the services of the private investigator he's been working with, who he hired shortly after Natalee went missing.

If the bones are a match, they could finally help the grieving parents put their daughter to rest.
